Hurricane Relief

Relief Efforts

Rebuilding After the Storm

In 2017, the island of Puerto Rico – home to 3.3 million – was devastated by Hurricane Maria. Hurricane Maria was the worst natural catastrophe the island has seen in nearly a hundred years, leaving its infrastructure ravaged and thousands of residents without food, water, shelter, medical care, and electricity. In the face of this chaos, destruction, and despair, Puerto Ricans have shown remarkable fortitude, creativity, and resilience as they’ve worked to rebuild their lives.

We’ve raised $1.3 million to support hurricane relief efforts in Puerto Rico.

Over the last year, hundreds of supporters and friends of Flamboyan have donated to help rebuild the island. Our staff in Puerto Rico, even as they have had to repair their own homes and support family members, have worked tirelessly to ensure that relief reached across the island to support the most urgent needs. Flamboyan’s relief work focused on supporting the immediate and critical humanitarian and rebuilding efforts of residents on the island. At the same time, we worked to ensure the island’s children were in school and learning by advocating for, supporting, and restoring the island’s educational systems.
