Flamboyan Foundation seeks a collaborative and outcomes oriented Director of Leadership Development. This individual possesses a passion for improving public education and will help advance Flamboyan’s work in D.C. by developing and facilitating family engagement content for school and teacher leaders. The ideal candidate brings experience leading family engagement at the school or grade level and has strong adult facilitation skills.

Currently in our 7th year of operation in D.C., Flamboyan works closely with 44 public and public charter schools. Flamboyan also works closely with D.C. Public Schools and several teacher and leader preparation programs to build the capacity of school leaders and teachers to implement effective family engagement practices. We are looking for an outcomes-oriented, mission-driven team member to help us achieve this vision as a core member of our team.

The Director of Leadership Development position offers an incredible opportunity to work in a growing, entrepreneurial, and collaborative environment that is working to change the culture of how D.C. families and educators partner on behalf of students. This position reports to the Managing Director of Training and Knowledge Management at Flamboyan Foundation in Washington, D.C. Its start date is July 1st, 2017, or sooner, depending on candidate availability.

Responsibilities

Local Family Engagement Leadership Development (50%)

  • Manage partnerships with leadership certification programs
  • Develop and manage content design and facilitation of leadership certification partnership programs and provide coaching to participants between sessions
  • Develop and manage content design for leaders in Flamboyan partner schools
  • Lead recruitment and operations of DC-based fellowships, including project management, with support of Program Associate on logistics
  • Coach and support DC-based Flamboyan fellows with implementation of family engagement initiatives

National Fellowship Knowledge Management and Support (15%)

  • Capture and codify lessons learned from fellowship for institutional knowledge and future planning
  • Identify and gather resources, tools, and information to support national fellows’ plans for implementation and innovation
  • Support project operations, including recruitment and selection of participants, as well as logistics of fellowship convening meetings and supervision of Program Associate on administrative support
  • Support content design and facilitation of national fellowship

General Communications and Knowledge Management Responsibilities (15%)

  • Support the strategy for sharing tools and resources locally and nationally
  • Liaise with communications team, program team, and research and learning to lead development of digitized content and tools for dissemination to local and national audiences
  • Collaborate with training and knowledge management and technology teams to develop and implement local and national educator certification

General Training Responsibilities (20%)

  • Lead teacher, and leader trainings, including observation, coaching, and facilitation, in collaboration with the training team
  • Support design, management, and implementation of DC-based teacher learning fellowships
  • Provide design feedback or input/consultation as needed to team members on training and fellowships

Education and Experience

  • Minimum of 5+ years of relevant professional experience
  • School leadership or teacher leadership experience in an urban setting preferred
  • Adult facilitation experience preferred, with experience designing sessions to achieve outcomes
  • Bachelor’s degree required

  • Ability to identify outcomes and backwards-plan from those outcomes, including ability to design programs and/or approaches to meet desired results
  • Ability to analyze problems and identify solutions independently and collaboratively

Compensation
Salary is based upon experience and includes a complete benefits package.
