Flamboyan Foundation seeks an experienced and strategic Senior Director of Elementary Program Design. This individual possesses a passion for improving public education and will help advance Flamboyan’s work in D.C. by leading our program design work in the elementary grades to partner with educators, school leaders, community-based actors, and systems-level actors to engage families. The ideal candidate brings experience in setting vision and strategy in an entrepreneurial environment, an understanding of how schools and educators operate through direct experience, and a keen understanding of the educational environment in Washington, DC as well as excellent project management, meeting facilitation, communication, and critical thinking skills.

Currently in our 8th year of operation in D.C., Flamboyan Foundation is now partnering with over 50 local public and public charter schools, with DC Public Schools central office, and with several teacher and leader preparation programs to equip them with the confidence, knowledge, skills and resources to effectively partner with families for student success.

The Senior Director of Elementary Program Design position offers an incredible opportunity to work in an entrepreneurial and collaborative environment that is striving to change the culture of how families and educators partner to support student success. The person in this role will focus on designing programs and school partnerships to support the unique and ongoing needs of students and families at the elementary level while working with the program design team to support building a cohesive strategy across all grade levels.  This position reports to the Managing Director of Program Design in Washington, D.C.

Position Details

Lead elementary program strategy

  • Assess unique needs of elementary grade band and create goals and strategies aligned to program logic model
  • Lead strategic planning for elementary work, including for our school-based Elementary School Family Engagement Partnership (ESFEP)
  • Provide grade band/level expertise related to content for training, tools and coaching
  • Determine supports/inputs (coaching, data, training, etc.) to achieve goals and methods for learning and evaluation
  • Support DCPS engagement strategy with instructional superintendents and other leaders

Lead elementary program design

  • Work with internal teams to stay current on research relevant to elementary and identify best practices relevant to elementary work
  • Design, support and lead school partner leader professional development
  • Design and/or revise program guidance — rubrics, coaching calendars, school measures of success, scope and sequence documents, etc – to keep program on track to goals and responsive to partners
  • Partner with other programmatic teams to ensure aligned support for coaching, training, and additional external partnerships

Support program monitoring and management

  • Monitor program implementation and quality in partner schools to ensure the ESFEP is on track to goals
  • Collaborate with Managing Director of Coaching to lead reflection and professional development for elementary coaches
  • Manage a portfolio of 2-3 school partners by providing coaching, professional development, and other technical assistance to meet their goals
  • Observe coaching and training work in action to determine if program inputs are necessary/sufficient, codify what those inputs are or should be, and identify changes needed
  • Implement or support implementation of learning and impact evaluation plans (i.e., parent/teacher interviews, focus groups, surveys, etc.)
  • Provide program coordination and guidance across the program team

Support cross continuum learning across elementary, middle and high school program

  • Collaborate with middle school and college readiness program designers to ensure program alignment
  • Work with program design team to learn across the grade band continuum
  • Support program design team cross-grade band strategies

Education and Experience

  • 7+ years relevant professional experience
  • Track record working successfully with school staff, experience in Washington, D.C. strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated success in coaching leaders without a direct reporting relationship to drive change and success in coaching coaches
  • Bachelor’s degree required with master’s degree preferred

  • Passion for family engagement, with preference for those having used effective family engagement strategies in their classroom, school, and/or district
  • Superior, genuine interpersonal and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to take initiative and chart a path forward in circumstances that are ambiguous or have competing priorities, and help team members do the same
  • Collaborative/team oriented
  • Strong results-orientation and critical thinking; ability to backwards-map plans and decisions from desired outcomes
  • Training and meeting facilitation skills
  • Excellent and concise communicator, both verbally and in writing
  • High standard of quality and client/partner orientation
  • Ability to analyze problems and identify solutions independently and collaboratively

  • Highly organized and able to multi-task effectively

Compensation

Salary is based upon experience and includes a complete benefits package.
