Senior Managing Director, Relief Efforts

The Flamboyan Foundation is looking to immediately hire a person to lead the foundation’s relief efforts for Puerto Rico in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria.  This person will report directly to Kristin Ehrgood, President and Board Chair and will also work closely with Vadim Nikitine, founder of CCM Group and board member.  Candidates must be familiar with Puerto Rico and its culture and be fluent in Spanish.  Strong strategy, project management, execution skills and proven experience working in a constantly evolving situation required. This role will be based in Washington, DC and will require occasional travel between Washington, DC and Puerto Rico. Specific Responsibilities include:

In the short-term:

Strategy

  • Identifying and working with effective nonprofit organizations operating in Puerto Rico on the relief effort, particularly those capable of accepting significant donations;
  • Building a strategic plan for relief efforts;
  • Assessing new opportunities to aid relief efforts;
  • Identifying and supporting creative solutions to support children’s immediate educational needs;

Project Management

  • Overseeing and implementing fundraising efforts to support relief work;
  • Keeping donors updated on relief efforts;
  • Overseeing, managing and implementing all communications efforts;
  • Regularly updating management on relief efforts;
  • Effectively project managing all aspects of Flamboyan’s relief efforts;
  • Whatever is necessary to support the immediate needs of the people of Puerto Rico;

Execution

  • Partnering with our local Puerto Rico team, to the extent our local team is able, on relief efforts;
  • Finding and partnering with government, nonprofit, business, and individual efforts on the island;
  • Identifying and connecting with other organizations supporting relief efforts in Puerto Rico;
  • Building and sustaining networks of people interested in supporting relief efforts from the mainland United States;
  • Building and sustaining a network of champions to advise and support Flamboyan’s efforts;
  • Working with founders’ networks to activate people on behalf of relief efforts;
  • Contacting, partnering with, and learning from disaster relief professionals;

In the longer-term:

  • Supporting the Puerto Rico Department of Education, and other government agencies as needed, in getting schools open and operational;
  • Identifying and securing long-term support for education in Puerto Rico;
  • Supporting other initiatives as they arise.
