Donate to Hurricane Relief Efforts in Puerto Rico

Right now, the lights are still out for eight in ten Puerto Rico households. One in three people lack running water to drink or bathe. More than half are without cell phone coverage to find family or friends.

Hurricane Maria, the most devastating natural catastrophe ever to hit the island, may be almost a month behind us, but too many households are still fighting for the most basic human needs. It’s more urgent than ever for the rest of us not to turn our backs on the 3.5 million U.S. citizens who live in Puerto Rico.

We invite you to join the Flamboyan Foundation as we take action!

Right now, stabilizing communities is our first priority. Every dollar Flamboyan raises goes directly to those Puerto Rico residents most affected by this disaster. Flamboyan covers all of the administrative costs of our work while your contributions will go to organizations we’ve thoroughly vetted based on our decades of experience working with Puerto Rico’s non-profits, philanthropies and our school based initiatives.

The generous donations that we have received are already sparking action. Just last week Flamboyan helped facilitate the distribution of 750 filtration systems and buckets for families in need of clean water. In addition, we have awarded grants to the Center for a New Economy (CNE), an independent non-partisan organization providing extensive relief services, and the Instituto Nueva Escuela (INE), a nonprofit dedicated to providing children an outstanding public education by implementing the Montesorri philosophy, curriculum and methodology. Flamboyan’s grants of more than $100,000 are supporting 5 relief centers in some of the hardest hit neighborhoods and getting more than 20 teaching assistants back to work and more than 700 students into classrooms.

We have made tremendous progress but we are in this for the long haul. Our immediate efforts will focus on re-opening schools and providing communities with the resources needed to stabilize. That way, we’re poised to pivot as soon as possible back to supporting the island’s children in developing the skills they need to become confident readers by third grade.
