Marci Young Appointed President and COO of the Flamboyan Foundation

Foundation President Kristin Ehrgood Assumes Role of Chief Executive Officer; Signals Strategic Long-Term Focus on Impact and Organizational Development

Washington, D.C.–The Board of Directors of the Flamboyan Foundation, a foundation working to ensure students most impacted by inequity are prepared to succeed in school and beyond, has named Marci Young, Flamboyan’s Chief Operating Officer, as the organization’s next President and COO. She will succeed Flamboyan’s current President Kristin Ehrgood, who will assume the role of Chief Executive Officer and focus her efforts more externally. Ehrgood will retain her position as the foundation’s Board Chair.

“Under Marci’s strategic leadership over the past two years, Flamboyan has made important strides in its programmatic growth and organizational development,” said Flamboyan’s newly minted CEO Kristin Ehrgood. “At this pivotal time in our efforts to ensure all students are college and career ready, Flamboyan is committed to growing its impact as we work to effect change for more students in the mainland United States and Puerto Rico. Marci has the business acumen, educational knowledge, and sincere dedication to ensure our growth is sustainable and effective for those we serve. I look forward to her continued thought partnership as we work toward an even brighter future for the organization.”

Young, a nonprofit management veteran with more than twenty years’ experience, has served as Flamboyan’s COO since 2016. She has spent her career fighting at the local, state, and national levels to improve the lives of children and youth of low-income families. Young’s distinguished track record includes having been a Partner at Venture Philanthropy Partners, Vice President of Impact at United Way Worldwide, and having held leadership roles at Pew Center of States and the Center for the Child Care Workforce. She has served on numerous local and national boards. She holds a bachelor’s degree in economics from Stanford University and a master’s degree in early childhood education with a specialization in policy and administration from the University of Pennsylvania.

“I am privileged to have played a role over the past two years in helping Flamboyan make an impact in the communities in which we work.  Following the incredible trail blazed by Kristin over the past decade, I am honored to have her full confidence and that of the board to assume this role,” said Young. “We are living at a time of important transformation for education in Puerto Rico and on the US mainland. Students, their families, and their communities – particularly those most impacted by systematic inequities – are facing vulnerabilities that are increasingly hard to ignore. I am honored and inspired to be able to work with my colleagues in this new role to ensure that students are achieving and prepared for life beyond school.”
