Charles Rice-González nació en Santurce, Puerto Rico y creció en el Bronx. Es escritor, activista comunitario y LGBTQ desde hace mucho tiempo, y cofundador de BAAD!, Academia de Artes y Danza del Bronx. Su primera novela Chulito (Magnus Books 2011) ha recibido casi una docena de premios y reconocimientos, incluidos el Stonewall Book Awards y el National Book Critics Circle. Coeditó From Macho to Mariposa: New Gay Latino Fiction, y su obra I Just Love Andy Gibb se publicó en Blacktino Queer Performance: A Critical Anthology (2016). Sus escritos se han publicado en When Language Broke Open (2023); Huizache (2023), Obsidian (2023), Aster(ix) (2022), The Big Other (2022) y Teaching Black (2021), entre otros.
Charles sueña con publicar sus novelas Hunts Point y Long Island Boy, una colección de historias de amor queer ambientadas en Puerto Rico y establecer talleres de escritura en BAAD. “Este es uno de mis mayores honores porque el reconocimiento viene de mi querida isla de Puerto Rico. El Bronx y toda su puertorriqueñidad siempre ha sido mi musa, pero Puerto Rico también ha crecido como musa. Mi primera publicación oficial, una historia en Los Otros Cuerpos, fue mi primera publicación profesional. Me parece poético que el lugar donde nací también me haya parido como escritor profesional y ahora me haya concedido este gran honor. Y no se trata sólo de mí sino del cuadro destacado. de escritores con quienes comparto este honor”.

Charles dreams of publishing novels Hunts Point and Long Island Boy, a collection of queer love stories all set in Puerto Rico and establishing writing workshops at BAAD! “This is one of my greatest honors because the recognition comes from my beloved isla de Puerto Rico. The Bronx y toda su puertorriqueñidad has always been my muse, but Puerto Rico has also grown as a muse. My first official publication, a story in Los Otros Cuerpos, was my first professional publication. I find it poetic that the place from which I was born also birthed me as a professional writer and now has bestowed me with this great honor. And it’s not only about me but about the outstanding cadre of writers with whom I share this honor.”
