
Lawrence La Fountain-Stokes nació en San Juan, Puerto Rico, en 1968. Es profesor de cultura americana, lenguas y literaturas romances y estudios de género y la mujer en la Universidad de Michigan, Ann Arbor, donde enseña desde 2003. Fue director del Programa de Estudios de les Latines en Estados Unidos y director del Departamento de Cultura Americana en esa universidad. Su libro Queer Ricans: Cultures and Sexualities in the Diaspora (University of Minnesota Press, 2009) trata sobre migración y cultura homosexual puertorriqueña. También ha publicado dos libros de cuentos, Uñas pintadas de azul/Blue Fingernails (Bilingual Press, 2009) y Abolición del pato (Terranova Editores, 2013) y, junto a Dave Buchen, un libro bilingüe para lectores y lectoras jóvenes con marionetas de papel titulado A Brief and Transformative Account of Queer History/Un breve y transformador relato de la historia queer (2016). En 2018 la Editorial Isla Negra publicó su libro Escenas transcaribeñas: ensayos sobre teatro, performance y cultura. En 2021, la Editorial de la Universidad de Míchigan publicó Translocas: The Politics of Puerto Rican Drag and Trans Performance. Este libro recibió el Sylvia Rivera Award in Transgender Studies de CLAGS: Center for LGBTQ Studies, City University of New York, en 2021. Larry se presenta artísticamente como Lola von Miramar desde 2010 y aparece en la serie Cooking with Drag Queens en YouTube.
Lawrence La Fountain-Stokes was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1968. He is professor of American culture, Romance languages and literatures, and women’s and gender studies at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he has taught since 2003. He is the former director of the Latina/o Studies Program and former chair of the Department of American Culture. His book Queer Ricans: Cultures and Sexualities in the Diaspora (University of Minnesota Press, 2009) focuses on migration and Puerto Rican LGBTQ culture. He has also published two books of fiction, Uñas pintadas de azul/Blue Fingernails (Bilingual Press, 2009) and Abolición del pato (Terranova Editores, 2013) and, with Dave Buchen, a book for young readers with paper puppets titled A Brief and Transformative Account of Queer History/Un breve y transformador relato de la historia queer (2016). In 2018, Isla Negra Editores published his book Escenas transcaribeñas: ensayos sobre teatro, performance y cultura. In 2021, the University of Michigan Press published Translocas: The Politics of Puerto Rican Drag and Trans Performance. This book received the Sylvia Rivera Award in Transgender Studies from CLAGS: Center for LGBTQ Studies, City University of New York, in 2021. Larry performs in drag as Lola von Miramar since 2010 and has appeared in several episodes of the YouTube series Cooking with Drag Queens.
