School and Community Partners

Family Engagement Partnership Schools

The Family Engagement Partnership (FEP) is an intensive, school-wide initiative designed to support student success by transforming the ways in which teachers and families collaborate with one another.

The FEP provides intensive principal and teacher capacity-building – from teacher training to school leader coaching and professional development – with a focus on relationship building, academic partnering and ongoing communications practices.

The FEP began in 2011 with just five Washington, D.C. school partners. It has since grown to include 37 elementary and education campus (PK-8th grade) school partners: 34 DC public schools and 12 DC public charter schools. Flamboyan partners with schools in every one of D.C.’s eight wards.

Middle School Family Engagement Partners

Flamboyan Foundation works with four DCPS schools as Middle School Family Engagement Partners to implement high impact family engagement strategies that build strong relationships and engage families as partners in their student’s academic success.

Flamboyan provides partners with intensive support in the form of teacher training, leadership coaching, and resources to improve family engagement. DCPS funds teachers who conduct home visits and lead the work, while Flamboyan funds materials for student-led conferences and the implementation of other family engagement strategies.

Flamboyan is in its fourth year of partnering with Jefferson Academy, in its third year of partnering with Kelly Miller MS, and in its first year of partnering with Brookland Middle School and Eliot-Hine Middle School.

Middle School Learning Partners

Flamboyan Foundation is in its first year of partnering with five D.C. public charter schools to implement family engagement strategies that honor adolescents’ growing independence and engage families to: (1) communicate high expectations, (2) monitor progress,  and 3) coach the child to advocate for him/herself, and (4) guide the child’s educational decisions.

Partner schools set goals to improve family engagement that are responsive to the unique needs and contexts of their schools and pilot strategies aligned to these goals. Flamboyan supports partners by providing strategic planning, researched-based practices, and funding to implement these strategies.

Partners also take part in a Professional Learning Community (PLC) to learn alongside other schools about best practices for engaging middle school families.

College Readiness & Success Learning Partners

The College Readiness & Success Learning Partnerships are a collaboration between Flamboyan Foundation and several Washington, D.C. high-schools and community-based organizations to serve high school youth and their families.

Partners receive support to design and pilot promising family engagement strategies as part of their ongoing college readiness and success efforts. These partnerships aim to improve student outcomes related to college preparedness, enrollment, persistence, and graduation by empowering families to guide their child’s path to and through college.

As Learning Partners, these schools and organizations meet regularly as they implement their work to share lessons learned and to problem solve together. Flamboyan provides funding and regular coaching to bolster these innovative family engagement practices.
