Building on the Fund’s long-term strategy to strengthen a sustainable cultural ecosystem
The Flamboyan Arts Fund is launching a new phase of long-term investments for arts and cultural organizations across Puerto Rico, reaffirming its commitment to the sustainability and continued development of the sector.
As part of this effort, the Fund will provide unrestricted multi-year grants to a cohort of organizations whose work advances cultural practices that are essential to the archipelago. Designed to provide greater stability, long-term planning capacity, and room for innovation, this $6.4 million investment over five years recognizes the role arts and culture play in preserving Puerto Rico’s heritage while helping shape its future.
At a time when most of the cultural sector continues to operate with limited resources and high levels of uncertainty, the investment reflects an understanding that strengthening the cultural ecosystem requires that organizations are sustained in order to deepen their work, ensure continuity, and expand their impact within communities.
The following 15 organizations will benefit from this initiative: Agua, Sol y Sereno, Asociación A-Circ, Beta-Local, Conservatorio de Música de Puerto Rico, Coro de Niños de San Juan, Escuela de Artes Plásticas, Fideicomiso Ballets de San Juan, Fundación Nacional para la Cultura Popular, Mujeres de Islas, Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Puerto Rico, Museo de Arte y Diseño de Miramar (MADMI), Museo de Arte de Ponce, Museo de Arte de Puerto Rico, Museo de las Américas and Y no había luz.
Over the past seven years, Flamboyan Arts Fund has supported more than 990 artists and more than 110 cultural organizations, contributing to the strengthening of artistic practice, organizational capacity, and cultural infrastructure throughout the archipelago. “The Flamboyan Arts Fund has witnessed the essential role cultural organizations play in sustaining Puerto Rico’s creative and social fabric. Art is not an optional part of Puerto Rican culture, but a key component to the recovery, revitalization, and growth of the archipelago. We believe the organizations in this funding cohort are essential to amplifying creative talent and creating opportunities for both residents and visitors to experience the richness and diversity of cultural life across the archipelago. Sustained investment in these institutions is an investment in Puerto Rico’s future”, said Kristin Ehrgood CEO and Board Chair of the Flamboyan Foundation and co-founder of the Flamboyan Arts Fund.
“In the 7 years since we started the Flamboyán Arts Fund, we have learned deeply about the cultural ecosystem in Puerto Rico; we have learned that these 15 grantees are fundamental to keep Puerto Rico’s arts and culture scene thriving. These organizations serve as homes within their work and mission areas, empowering and nurturing artists of all levels, while engaging the public and making arts and culture accessible for all. Puerto Rico’s cultural ecosystem would go off-balance without them, and that’s why we are proud to support them, as we continue to raise and allocate funds for independent artists and innovation,” said Luis Miranda, Jr. co-founder of the Flamboyan Arts Fund.
This round of grants is one component of a broader strategy of the Flamboyan Arts Fund to support the long-term vitality and continuity of Puerto Rico’s arts and cultural sector. Additional efforts exploring new approaches responding to the evolving needs and creative growth will be announced in the future.
