Flamboyan Receives Two Grant Investments to Expand Its Family Engagement Product Offerings Across the U.S.

Flamboyan Foundation is pleased to announce grants from The Leon Lowenstein Foundation and the Howard and Geraldine Polinger Family Foundation to support its efforts to catalyze REAL Family Engagement in Washington, DC and across the country. The grants will support:

  1. The development of multi-media resources for educators aligned to REAL Family Engagement and the 5 Roles families play to accelerate student learning.
  2. The creation of a REAL Family Engagement diagnostic tool for educators to assess their current family engagement practice. With this tool, educators at the classroom, school, and system levels will be able to receive customized resources and guidance to improve their family engagement practice.
  3. The collection of input and feedback from families and teachers to help Flamboyan evaluate the effectiveness of its resources, and locate opportunities to develop new ones.

Recognizing the importance of making its family engagement tools and guidance more widely available to practitioners, schools, and district leaders, Flamboyan created a product development function within its External Affairs division in 2019. Since 2020, its family engagement resources have been accessed in more than 46 states and downloaded more than 2,500 times. The Covid-19 pandemic has only exacerbated inequities that have always existed, and amplified the importance of meaningful relationships between families and educators built on trust and shared power, even from a distance.

Since the pandemic began, Flamboyan has pivoted to help educators during this unprecedented time through new resources like the Wellness Check, Strategies to Engage Unreached Families, and a Guide to REAL Family Engagement During Distance Learning. The generous support received from The Leon Lowenstein Foundation and the Polinger Family Foundation will enable Flamboyan to continue expanding its product offerings, making REAL Family Engagement accessible across rural and urban communities alike.
