Ernesto Quiñonez

Ernesto Quiñonez nació en Ecuador el 14 de agosto de 1969 y se crio en El Barrio, Nueva York. Actualmente vive en Washington Heights, Nueva York, y es escritor, profesor, guionista y ensayista. Su primera novela, Bodega Dreams (Random House) fue catalogada por The New York Times como un “nuevo clásico inmigrante”, que desde entonces se ha convertido en un hito en la literatura contemporánea y es lectura obligatoria en muchas escuelas secundarias y universidades de todo Estados Unidos. Sus ensayos han aparecido en The New York Times, Esquire, Newsweek, Washington Post, El País, Latina Magazine y en otros lugares. Es producto de la educación pública desde kindergarten hasta el City College de Nueva York. Es miembro del Laboratorio de Escritores de Sundance y apareció por última vez en el episodio “Blackout” de PBS American Experience. Su última novela se titula Taina. Actualmente enseña en la Universidad de Cornell.

 

Ernesto Quiñonez was born in Ecuador on August 14, 1969 and was raised in El Barrio, New York. He currently lives in Washington Heights, New York, and is a writer, professor, screenwriter, and essayist. His first novel, Bodega Dreams (Random House) was named a “new immigrant classic” by the New York Times. It has, since then, become a landmark piece, and is required reading in many secondary schools and universities across the United States. His essays have appeared in The New York Times, Esquire, Newsweek, the Washington Post, El País, Latina Magazine, and other places. He is the product of public education, having attended public school from kindergarten all the way up to his studies at The City College of New York. He is a member of the Sundance Writers’ Lab and appeared in the PBS American Experience “Blackout” episode. His most recent novel is titled Taína. He currently teaches at the University of Cornell.
